    CLUB HISTORIAN

At the last Management Committee meeting Rob

Pollard was appointed as the Club’s Historian.

Rob has been asked to research the history of the

Dunsborough & Districts Country Club & create a

digital documentation that reflects this research.

Very little of the Club’s history is available in a written

form but so much obviously resides in the minds of

members who have been part of the development of

the Club or have knowledge of such development,

An authentic historic digital record can be successfully

developed with the cooperation of members who may

have knowledge of relevant dates, events and the

people involved in the evolution of the Club.

To this end Rob is keen to speak with any members

who may have such knowledge & would be prepared to

avail themselves for an informal interview with him.

He is happy to meet with individuals or small groups of

members who would feel more comfortable in a small

    group setting.

Small groups can provide the opportunity for members

to “bounce” facts, incidents, stories etc of one another

thus having the potential to more accurately create a

    reliable historic record.

Rob is very interested in hearing of any comments that

may have impacted on the Club’s development since it

was founded, no matter how signif9icant members may

    feel it to be.

Photos would also be very valuable for this exercise &

will be returned after a copy is made.

If you are interested in assisting Rob in the

development of this historical record please contact

him at the Club or phone him on 0409106576.

A nice even 32 players turned up on an overcast day enabling Rob Pollard to arrange a pairs peg-draw. Despite a sprinkling of rain, two 12-end games were played and Ken Hill and Rod Winchcombe took home the meat with + 18 shots, closely followed by Dominic and Wayne Coyle who were 15 shots up. Rob Wilson and Kevin Gibb earned the chocolate.

    Saturday Bowls

Just two handsful of players braved a cold but dry Saturday afternoon but enthusiastically shared in no less than three 12-end peg draws. Winners on the day were decided by total shots up in the three games which saw Wayne Coyle just beat Butch Sharpe into first place. (Congratulations to Gail Barry, the only brave woman present)

Ladies’ Tennis Opening Day was held on Wednesday 28 August from 8.30 am.  It was really pleasing to see a number of new faces playing as well as a few who have committed to attend over the next few weeks.  Mandy Simonetti did a great job in organising the morning including some enticing food in the Tennis Shed.

Our coach, Andrew Woodward, also attended and was involved in coaching tips for the ladies including court positioning, volleying and doubles play.

Thanks so much Mandy and Andrew.

Andrew will be re-commencing the popular Cardio Tennis on Tuesday 3 September and available for group or individual coaching.  Newcomers to cardio tennis will be able to enjoy a free trial session and adult coaching will be $20.00 per session.

Great to see such a happy group gathering in such nice weather!

    Happenings Around The Club

    EVERYBODY PLEASE NOTE:

The South West Men’s Vets Golf is being played this Wed 21st of August at the DDCC.
The Golf Course and Bike Trails are closed for this event until 5pm.
This means you CANNOT ride the bike trails, you CANNOT play Golf and you CANNOT walk across the course as there is a great chance you may be hit by a golf ball- yes sometimes golfers DON’T hit straight!!
During the ladies 3 day golf weekend many people were coming onto the course to walk themselves and their dog/s etc. Bikers were riding the course despite it being closed. You may think you won’t get hit however errant golf balls are very common!! Also you are moving while the golfers are hitting and that puts the golfer off- so please be aware and walk and ride elsewhere when the course is closed. The golfers give up their weekends of golf for bike events to occur so please reciprocate when golf has the odd event on.
    Thank you.

PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER DUE TO XMAS IN JULY BEING HELD

    *********************

    ENDURO EVENT

    Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st July

This event is being held this weekend and is made up of 7 separate downhill runs.  Each age category and gender have different runs to do, with the top men’s age groups doing all 7 runs. The fastest combined time over all the runs produces the winners. Once at the bottom of each run, cyclists must get themselves back to the top to do the next run.  You only get 1 attempt at each run so any falls or bike fails can destroy your chances!  They have a set time period to complete all  their runs.

We encourage members to come and watch all events but watching the little kids race is incredible!!!!  The atmosphere at these events is epic!!!

Come along and join the fun over the weekend!!

    Hi riders,

Thanks to the volunteers who attended our Trail Care Day on Sunday July 7th and cut in a new line for our enjoyment.

The Child’s Play / Why Not line is great fun, give it a try if you have not already!

The Dual Slalom has been upgraded, although a bit soggy in parts with some recent downpours!

Note that the cycle line on Longman’s needs to be remarked, with some tidying up  of honkey nuts and debri, masking our trail. We hope to have this marked out soon.

Enjoy riding over the school holidays, and see you out on the trails!

A keen field of  twenty two players rolled up to make this a successful event for 2019 .

Starting with a shotgun start from different tees around the course which had been well prepared by our valued volunteers, one or two light showers did not daunt the spirits of the playing field . A tea/coffee to ready the field for the 12.00 start saw players soon  swinging and putting with purpose around the course.

Runners Up    Mal Williamson and May Armstrong Nett   69 ¼

Event Club Patron, Libby Mettam MLA, did the presentations on behalf of Fellow Club Patron, Barry House AM, who was unable to attend  as he was interstate.

Libby, in congratulating the players thanked all the players for their support of the event and the spirit that is displayed by Members and Visitors for DDCC events like this.

We as Members greatly appreciate the support of our valued Patrons .

Many thanks also to Helen Rowell for the Raffle organisation and to the Lady volunteers  on the day. You provide just the right touch as always.

Thanks also to our DDCC Club Chef, Rob, for his after game savoury delights.

Thanks to the Volunteers for great course preparation once again.

  • ·     Now we have several stockpiles ready for removal.
  • ·     Clive Williams and Mike Brown have organized the fertilization of the course with  Supervisor Barry Jackson, as soon as weather permits.
  • We are combining this with the removal and sale of  some scrap metal.
  • ·     Thanks to the two Barrys for making up a hoist cover for the truck to assist with these activities.

LADIES’ GOLF

The inclement weather, once again hampered the ladies golf day last Thursday and the Championship round for 18 holers was once again postponed and the 9 holers also didn’t get to play, but it did give the ladies a bit of planning time for the upcoming SWDLGA Championships being held at our Club in August. However, with better weather forecast this coming Thursday, we will attempt 3rd time lucky and post the 2nd Championship round again instead of the Pink Ball Day.

Thank you to Ron Carmody & Co for organising the successful Mixed Ambrose Open Day on Saturday despite the initial bit of rain. Post rain, the day turned out lovely and a few photos below show just how lovely the course has become this year.

...and yes the kangaroos agree that the course is in great condition too!
