MEN’S BOWLS NEWS

The men’s Professional Championship Fours was played on Sunday.  Naturally the weather decided to play up and so it was overcast, misty at times, with a cold westerly wind.

The final was played between the teams skipped by Mike Brown and Gary Davies. It was a long day with these players putting down 100 bowls each over 50 ends¸ so one can forgive them if they got tired somewhere along the line.

It was the Brown team that cracked.  They started well winning the first three ends and being 6-0 up but then the Davies side that found form.  Each team member, ie Brian Buttsworth, Andre Gil and Rob Pollard played very well and supported their skip magnificently.  They won the next seven ends to lead 14-6 and after that the Brown team only won four ends but did steal a great 14 on the 17th end.  Mike was ably supported by Ian Creagh, new player to the club Lenton Thomas and Terry South.

The championship was won by the Davies team 23-14.

In the meantime the plate was being played between Tom Reynolds side and Edmund Hoemberg side. There was a great deal of animation going on and they all had fun. It was Tom and Rod Winchcombe, Ken Littlefair and Don Henderson that won over Ed, Kevin Gibb, John Cunneen and Hank De Boer.

It was a great day and the vast majority stayed behind in a social atmosphere to enjoy an evening meal together.

14 pt Invitation A/C Doubles

Last Thursday, 3rd November, 4 players from Bunbury Central Croquet joined our Association Croquet players for a day’s croquet at Dunsborough. For once the weather was good.

We played 3 x 1 ½ hour rounds of 14 point association croquet doubles, playing with a different partner each round. The winner would be the player with the highest individual hoop score.

Matches were played in good spirit with a great deal of humour. We enjoyed morning tea and lunch and the Presentation at the end of play.

The player with the highest hoop score was our President and comparatively new player Max Kewish, well done. Coming second was Maureen Mason, a former state player. Spot prizes were won by Vi and Brian Bebbington and Raelene Willis. Overall a good mix between Dunsborough and Bunbury players.

The Bunbury contingent was very complimentary about the club and the facilities. We are looking forward to visiting Bunbury in January.
