CORPORATE BOWLS NEWS
The Corporate Bowls season for 2015/16 has ended with the annual Cowaramup Challenge. Seven teams were selected to represent our club. Cowaramup needed more bowlers again this year and once again some of our own stepped up to help out. I have been informed that starting next year Cowaramup will cut their teams back to six.
Representing our club were the teams of White Shoe Shuffles, The Lakers, Bar McFlys, Team Norton, Hunters & Gatherers, Jack Wackers and Crackerjacks. Bring Back the Grass was also selected but could not make the challenge.
Despite misgivings from a few corporate bowlers that changing direction “would mean an advantage to Cowaramup” our players won the challenge 73-43 and took back the shield.
Congratulations to all teams and in particular to White Shoe Shuffles which won both rounds, Team Norton and Bring Back the Grass as round winners.
Many thanks are extended to our sponsors. Sally from TSC won the sponsorship box prize of a $180 voucher from Dunsborough Automotives. There were a huge number of receipts in the box and I am delighted to say that the corporate bowlers are backing their sponsors. Sally was thrilled to win this prize and her signed receipt came from Artezen.
Big congratulations to Sam Allen who won the major club raffle of a set of bowls, bag shoes etc. Everyone was happy for his win but we now all expect him to play a whole heap better!!!
I thank all the corporate bowlers also and please tell everyone about this. We lost some teams again in round two so we still have room for more. We can have 28 teams each night so spread the word.
I extend major thanks to all who helped during the season, thanks to all the ladies and men who came willingly to help in the kitchen, including some newcomers from both sections. Jill Winter, Gail Barry, Diane and Ben Tas came along each week to work the bar, Butch Sharpe, Geoff Oddy, Norm Gage, Rob Prentice, Hans Queckfeldt, Peter Willcocks on the outside bar. Kaye McCormack and Rob Pollard working the table and receiving money, Iain Creagh who filled in for Rob, Rod Winchcombe and Brian Morris for taking care of the raffles. Wendell Hoover did a lot of work not only on both nights at the table, but also at home keeping everything up to date on the computer.
There were a lot of comments about how great the food was each night so Sharon and her family need to be thanked as well. Bruce and his enthusiasm to help should be acknowledged. To all the bell ringers out there who came each night to ring the bell. Nothing would have started nor ended without you! That’s how important you were!!
Enjoy a few photos
