BOWLS NEWS

MEN’S BOWLS

Men’s Bowls Results

The busiest week yet for Men’s bowlers as the weather warms up and the “B” green carpet nears completion.

Tuesday saw our first side play the third round in the 2nd division of the SWBL at Busselton against Busselton Black.

Ed Hoemberg’s team drew with our friend Roger Badans, 18-all, while Gary Davies’ rink won their game by three shots, 20-17.

This gave our first side 3.5 points to Busselton Black’s 0.5 points. Dunsborough is now third on the ladder behind Eaton and Brunswick.

Our second side was away, playing Eaton Blue, and came home with 3 of the 4 points when Rob Prentice’s team won 24-21, and Graeme Winter’s team went down by only 2 shots, 16-18. Dunsborough second team is also third on the ladder behind Capel and Busselton.

Thursday afternoon peg-draw was enjoyed by 37 competitors and the day was won by Brian Buttsworth, Rod Winchcombe, and Lindsay Blythe (Busselton), 16 points up, just 4 points more than Kevin Gibb and Rolf Groenaide (Busselton). Keith Rowell and Wally Dawson (Busselton) brought up the rear and took the chocolate.

Saturday saw our four sides take part in the second round of the only division of the Leeuwin League.

At home, Dunsborough Blue beat Margaret River White on both rinks, Ed Hoemberg’s team winning 25-18, and Dennis Frost’s team 21-11.

Also on our new carpet, Dunsborough Gold took only 1 of the 4 points on offer as the home team, playing Dunsborough White. Don Henderson’s team lost 19-26 to Rob Prentice’s rink, while Wendell Hoover’s team beat Ian Creagh’s on the last end, 23-22.

Playing away against Margaret River Gold was Dunsborough Red who did brilliantly to win both games on a strange surface, Brian Buttsworth’s team by 22-16, and Graeme Winter’s team by 21-13.

Dunsborough Red’s 4 points took them to third on the ladder behind Augusta Blue and Cowaranup Gold. Dunsborough White are presently fourth on the ladder, Dunsborough Blue are fifth and Dunsborough Gold are presently eighth of the twelve sides competing in the single division.

[more details on the noticeboard, each week ]

Sunday was a beautiful day for bowls and the first round of the Professionals Men’s Fours’ Championship. The Match Committee was delighted that the early entry of several self-chosen teams did not prevent eight teams competing which meant that each team in two divisions played three other teams on the day. At the end of some close fought games one team in each division won all three of their games so that Geoff Benn’s four will meet Rob Prentice’s team in a final to be held on 24 November, probably in the late afternoon.

Men are welcome to join ladies for social bowls on a Wednesday morning.

Corporate Bowls starts next Tuesday and Wednesday. Volunteer help still required.

Don’t forget that the Cycle Club has a team in the Tuesday night Corporate Bowls at DDCC, starting from next week the 14th November.  If you are keen to play, and or ride first, please contact us via the Facebook page or email us at membership@dunsboroughcycleclub.com.au.
