BOWLS NEWS
MEN’S BOWLS
Hearty congratulations to our mid-week Pennants first side who triumphed over Busselton in the finals of the 2nd division SWBL last Tuesday. They brought home the bacon with a great turnaround. Having previously lost to Busselton Red in the semi-final they beat Busselton Black in the preliminary final at Busselton in the morning, and in spite of Busselton speeding up the lawn in the afternoon, both Mike Brown and Gary Davies’ rinks beat Busselton Red in the grand-final in the afternoon. Special thanks to the Bootleg Brewer who stood in at short notice in both games and played very well, when Geoff Oddy withdrew due to illness.
40 combatants turned up on a lovely day last Thursday for the peg-draw when Ed Clark and Bill Hitsert just outscored Peter Willcocks and Clive Williams for the meat and Linton Thomas and Lindsay Blyth took home the Mars bar.
It was great to see 23 social bowlers take part in the first of Mike O’Mara’s twilight bowls on Friday evening. Do join them for a drink and a meal afterwards.
Our selectors trust that those who wish to take part in next year’s Pennants games will add their names to the two lists that will go up shortly on the noticeboard. The selectors wish to remind everyone that once selected they expect participants to take Pennants seriously. Naturally, absences for such things as weddings and funerals (especially ones’ own) would be acceptable, but failure to commit regularly for less creditable reasons would be frowned upon.
Our second side in the Leeuwin League play in the 2nd Division grand-final at Margaret River this Saturday afternoon. Naturally, any support would be most welcome.
