Bowls News

Perhaps the only thing the two selectors present learned from  last Saturday 24th September pre-Pennant challenge was that the Dockers are better at bowls than they are at footie! However, both teams on two rinks, enjoyed 18-ends of the two-bowl game and the West Coast Eagles, being magnanimous in defeat, were only too willing to share a jug of beer with the Fremantle eight who triumphed on aggregate by a few shots. All sixteen players enjoyed the cold but dry afternoon and felt that we should try it again next year as a season pre-amble.

Social :  Due to the weather last Tuesday the bowls were cancelled.  However on Thursday 42 players arrived and the winners on the day were M Brown, N Gage and R DellaBosca with plus 14.  The runners-up on plus 14 and a countback were B Marwick, B Sharpe and C Williams.  The consolation prize went to K Hill, L Perry and B Pearce on plus 9.  The MB award went to W Hoover, R Baudains and S Spinks on minus 17.

The ladies commenced their season last Wednesday with their general meeting followed by some of the brave-hearts challenging the cold wind for a short game.  Kate Speedy was invited to roll the first bowl of the season and she then proceeded to play exceptionally well in the game she played.  All ladies are looking forward to enjoying a great season.  The Friendship Day will be at Eaton this Friday.

The men’s season commences this Thursday with social bowls starting at 12:45 and the Pennant season starts on Saturday for Div 2 with home games White v Nannup and Blue v Cowaramup whilst all of Div 1 have a bye.

An email has been received from Ray Green of Trevor’s Carpets.  You will all be aware that Ray is a major sponsor for the club and he also has great interest in how the club is progressing.  His email states how pleased he is to see the design of the men’s new club shirts which he has sponsored and he has offered his congratulations on the committee’s choice of material and design.  He is aware of all the time spent travelling to Perth and meeting with the company to come up with the final design and he looks forward to seeing the men’s team wearing his sponsored shirt on the green.  The committee once again thank Ray for his ongoing support, sponsorship and interest in our Dunsborough club.

Past Week’s  weather has not been  the best for golf but we managed to have a fine day for our Vets Game at Pemberton  last  Thursday.  Winning score was 37 and Ron Carmody managed a 35.  It was good to see Ken Littlefair show us around the Club where he is a Life Member and was responsible for the establishment of  the second nine holes of the course back in his time when he lived in the area.

With the cancellation of  the scheduled President Versus Captain Team Event last Saturday because of the weather, it will be played this coming Saturday.

Fingers crossed for a fine day this time!
