Newsletter October 11th 2016

Tuesday mixed bowls 4/10/16.

Well the last day for us this year.  Has been so much fun and enjoyable for all we hope.  We had 21 bowlers for the day and 4 went into the final.  Jill Winter, Dave Chester,  Sue Chester and Norman Gage.  Sue went thru to win the major prize.  Good on Sue. Thanks to everyone who participated throughout the season to make it a really good fun and enjoyable competition.  See you again late April next year.

Butch, GeofF and Sharon

Thursday 6th October.  There were 33 players and the combination of W Coyle and B Sharpe won with plus 41 from T Reynolds and K Holyoake (who played magnificently at Pennants on Saturday – for Nannup!) on plus 21.  The consolation went to H Fischer and G Winter whilst the MB award was well received by K Gibb and H Queckfeldt.

Dunsborough hosted the start of the men’s pennant competition with Second Div hosting Nannup and Cowaramup.  The rain stayed away except for a small spit or two but the wind came up a treat for all players, cold and lazy as it went right through everyone.  The new shirts could not be seen as everyone had to rug up, except for Heinze who braved it out in his new shirt.

The white side hosted Nannup and the two skips T Reynolds and B Buttsworth were not worried with the exception of how well K Holyoake was playing for Buttsworth who was watching closely.  However at the long run the two sides came in for the full four points.

The blue side hosted Cowaramup and B Hitsert went down quickly to the cowboys as they were playing with all the luck intended for Dunsborough and with the last two ends to go were down by 12 shots.  B Pearce was having a great time with his team on the next rink with their score looking like it might just take on and get the points.  But it all boiled over quickly.  On the second last end the Hitsert side managed to get five shots, down by seven and Pearce up by the same number.

Mike Brown was watching the final end and remarked that whichever team got shot, that team would get the points.  It was like Phar Lap coming around the bend carrying all that weight¸ everyone cheering wanting him to win, and that’s just what the Hitsert team managed finishing the last end with another 5 points and going down to Cowaramup by two shots but ensuring the Blue side gets three points.  Great game and great finish.

Thursday Men’s Social Bowls names must be in at 12.30pm at the latest for a 12.45pm start.

Ron Carmody (Captain)

President’s Team Versus Captain’s Team
Last Saturday saw this long awaited event played off in fine weather with a keen field drawn up for both teams. The competition was Stableford and scores ranged from Mal Williamson’s 36 down to 21. The teams’ result was very close – so close in fact, it was a draw with both teams accumulating 144 points each. Being a team event with all contributing towards the total score, each team member received a prize . Mal Williamson continued his good form by winning the longest putt on No 18.
With several fairways being a splash of yellow given the dandelions’ rapid regrowth even after fairway mowing, it needed good eyes to spot the ball on some of the fairways. From a distance it looked like a great canola crop! It’s a pity the 120 resident kangaroos don’t seem much interested in the dandelions. Ah well, summer is coming and then we’ll see them looking for the shade.
These Arum Lilies however are quite happy in their lofty perch alongside one of the fairways.
