BOWLS NEWS

MEN’S BOWLS

Tuesday SWBL

Our 2nd Division side played their second ‘home’ game against Binningup at Capel and came away victorious gaining three of the four points on offer.

Mike Brown’s team lost narrowly, 18-22, while Ed Hoemberg’s four won by a large margin, 26-6.

Our second side, playing in the 3rd Division, christened the new ‘A’ green carpet handsomely by taking all four points.

Ian Creagh’s team won 21-13, while Rob Prentice’s team won 29-14.

Thursday Peg-Draw

Twelve men braved the elements to try out the new carpet. Bill Pearce and Butch Sharpe won the day, from Hans Queckfeldt and Geoff Oddy, while the chocolate remained safely behind the bar this week.

Saturday Leeuwin League

The Leeuwin League season kicked off with a home derby on a windy day with minor rain interruption. However 21-ends were completed on all four rinks. The selectors, especially, were pleased with the outcome, as Dunsborough White beat Dunsborough Blue by just one point on aggregate, 36-35, while Dunsborough Red tied with Dunsborough Gold on the other two rinks, 36-36.

In the first game, Ian Creagh’s team beat Ed Hoemberg’s 20-13, while Rob Prentice’s team lost to Mike Brown’s four, 16-22.

In a second game, Clive Williams’s team lost to Don Henderson’s team, 16-19, while Graeme Winter’s side beat Wendell Hoover’s side, 20-17.

Reserves for any league fixtures are encouraged to turn up on the day, have a roll-up, and support our teams. It was good to see Brian Logan doing just that last Saturday.

LADIES BOWLS

PENNANTS.

Dunsborough ladies hosted pennants on 24th Oct. playing on the new carpet on A green.

Dunsborough Blue:- Maureen Hines, Jem Coupar, Judy Henderson and Janice Hoover played

Dunsborough White:- Gail Barry Sue Chester, Denise Mott and May Armstrong.

Both teams won a pairs match but Blue won the aggregate.

The result of the fours was a draw. This gave Blue 3 points and White 2 points.

Tues 31st pennants will be played at Augusta.

LADIES TWO DAY BOWLING CARNIVAL

The Ladies Bowls section were host to ninety six players when they held their annual Two Day Carnival on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th October.

The Sponsors for the Carnival were Judy & Don Henderson, Cape Care, & Dunsborough Veterinary Hospital.

Bowlers from 11 different Clubs from the Metropolitan area and the South West bravely faced up to the appalling weather conditions on Thursday. They were only able to complete two games of Foursomes, with the Pairs competition having to be cancelled.

Fortunately, the weather conditions improved on Friday, and all scheduled competitions were able to be completed.

Waiting on the sidelines were the team replacing B Green with new carpet surface, and much to the amusement of our visitors, within moments of the last competitor finishing their game, this was the last we saw of our old B green as it was whisked off to its new home.

However, the gourmet meals provided by our wonderful volunteers under the supervision of Pam Brown during the two days, helped to make up for the dreadful weather conditions, and we were delighted to have a team from Eaton, who after seeing the menu for the “Friday Night Dinner” decided to stay on a bit longer and enjoy that as well.

Stephen Carmody from Cape Care, although unable to be present for the prize giving due to prior commitments, gave a very informative talk to our visitors and Club members regarding the services provided by Cape Care, and also an update as to the commencement of the proposed Care Facilities due to be built in Dunsborough.

Judy & Don Henderson presented the prizes to the following winners:

First PrizeAugusta     The only team winning all 4 games for 12 points.

Wendy Wilson, Patricia Campbell, Mem Evans, & Helen Reid (Skip)

Second & Third positions were decided by a countback as eight teams finished with 9 points

Second:  with 9 Points + 34

Leeming; Sue Syme, Karyn Mears, Pam Webber & Sue Neill (Skip)

Third: with 9 Points + 31

Also Leeming: Lynley Rennick,

Lesley Dewar, Pam Strongman,

& Lucy Tinley (Skip)

The Capel Team of

Pam Vickers, Marg Smythe, Shirley Hickey &Beryl Payne were delighted to have had a win of 8 on one end to win a special award,

and the Eaton Team were also presented with a prize for being the first team to enter for this year’s Carnival.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this

Carnival such a success

CYCLE NEWS

Lots of exciting plans being made by the Cycle Club and DDCC for the future!

Watch this space for updates of trails refurbishment and social ride details.

Hot news this week is that the Cycle Club has entered a Bowls Team for the Corporate Bowling Tournament starting on Tuesday 14th Nov.

We are looking for Cycle members to come and play in our team.  The term runs for 6 weeks.  4 players are needed each Tuesday but no commitment required.  Contact the Cycle Club and let them know if you are keen and when you are available and we’ll put a team together each week.  The cost is $7 per player and that includes a beer and a sausage sizzle!

For those that are interested there will be a social ride from the Country Club at 5pm prior to bowls, all welcome…. and on that note, make sure you take advantage of the HOT showers after your ride!  The perfect way to dust off before hitting those Bowling Greens!!

Event news: This weekend Augusta is being taken over by Adventure Racers who are going to paddle, run, swim and Mtb around the rugged landscape as part of the Act Belong Commit Augusta Adventure Race.  Good luck to all those members racing and we look forward to hearing all about it over a beer in the club soon!!

TENNIS NEWS

The Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club members effectively used the old green synthetic grass surface as a stable pathway from their Club house to the beach and their fleet of yachts.  A great example of one local sporting group helping another.

It is the Tennis Section’s Open Day & ‘Ol Cow Bell Challenge on Saturday 11th November.
