Men’s Thursday Social Bowls  Message from the Captain.

– PHONING IN LATE –

All players are reminded that they must be present and have paid their green fees no later than 12.30pm on Thursdays.   A concession had been made for those bowlers who work or are caught up in a specific one-off emergency to be able to phone in and indicate that they will be late.

This is NOT to be interpreted as permission to just role up late because you prefer not to have to wait!!!

Peter and I have our time cut out trying to get 40 plus bowlers out playing within the 15 minutes we have from 12.30pm -12.45pm. During this period we don’t want to be still taking green fees.  During this time we need to know specific numbers in order to define the grouping of the day’s play eg, Pairs, Triples etc.

So please don’t phone in late unless you have a very legitimate reason for doing so.

Your cooperation is essential bowlers. Please help us to provide you with an enjoyable afternoon’s bowling.

Rob Pollard

Captain

Bootleg Brewery Men’s Championship Pairs.

Denise Mott described the morning’s session as “some of the best bowling ever”.  Last year’s champs of Kelly Allsop and Edmund Hoemberg were sent into the plate by Prentice/Winter.  Others sent into the plate were the Davies/Henderson team (Brown/Oddy), deBoer/South (Benn/Reynolds), Barnett/Fischer (Hitsert/Don), Winchcombe/Pearce (Gibb/Sharpe), Holyoak/Robinson (Finney/Queckfeldt), Thomas/Cunneen (Williams/Osborne) and Frost/Mott (Kelly/Creagh).

Second round winners : Brown/Oddy (def Kelly/Creagh), Benn/Reynolds (Hitsert/Don),  Gibb/Sharpe (Finney/Queckfeldt) and Williams/Osborne (Prentice/Winter).

The third round saw the Gibb/Sharpe combination dispatch Williams/Osborne very quickly and look as if they could be the favourites going into the final.  It must be noted that Martin Osborne is a novice and shows great understanding of the game and played some terrific bowls.  He is noted as the player of the day.  Another novice in Mick Finney (I want to say “Albert”) playing with Hans Queckfeldt did extremely well.  Congratulations to both of these new players.

The shot of the day must go to Mike Brown.  He and Geoff Oddy played off against Geoff Benn and Tom Reynolds in a game that was intense all the way.   On entering the last end Brown was up by one shot but had the last bowl and found himself down by two.  His drive took the jack out cleanly to the ditch and he gained two shots.

PLEASE NOTE :  The final for both the Championship and the Plate has been postponed to FRIDAY FEBRUARY 10TH with a 3.30 for 4pm start.

This is one day before the Super Six starts and two days before Hadleys Fours.  Come one and come all to see what has promised to be a great championship final between two teams.  Gibb/Sharpe versus Brown/Oddy.

GOOD LUCK to Edmund Hoemberg for this weekend as he is our representative in the IZRR.

HADLEY’S OPEN MEN’S FOURS

More teams are required for this event.  You all know that we need to support a sponsored event or risk losing that sponsor.  Nominate your team now.  The event is played on February 12th and nominations close on Thursday Feb 9th.  This is a great event, you do not want to miss out.  Come and have some fun with your friends.

COACHING CLINIC THURSDAY FEBRUARY 16TH.

Wayne Coyle has accepted our invitation to him to hold a coaching clinic on Feb 16th.  It will be for one hour and starts at 11am.  The new novices are encouraged to attend but the clinic is also open to everyone and anyone who would like some tips, advice, freshen up and just take part.  This is open to all bowlers, male and female.  Many thanks to Wayne for his time and skill.
