TENNIS NEWS

While winds and rain have interrupted tennis play the enthusiasm has remained and members have taken advantage of the breaks in the weather to get out onto the courts, if not to play to undertake some maintenance where required.

Jim Davies, Brian Walker, David Murrish & Trevor Holm – with encouragement from Dorothy and Kerry (below)

It is also the time of the year when the Tennis Tragics plan their annual holiday getaway to a sunnier location to enjoy some serious play and aprés tennis.  There are generally some sensible rules around the location – i.e. same timezone, one flight (although stretched a little this year); sunshine and definitely availability of courts at the selected resort.  This year the destination was Kota Kinabalu and despite some rain earlier in the month the weather was very warm and good for tennis.  Jim Davies, Brian Walker, David Murrish & Trevor Holm – with encouragement from Dorothy and Kerry).  They certainly picked a really good week to be absent from Dunsborough and avoid the wet and cold!

Pity it’s only a week guys!

CROQUET NEWS

GEOGRAPHE CHALLENGE

Congratulations to our Golf Croquet team who

convincingly beat Busselton to win back the shield that Busselton had won on their last encounter by just one hoop.

The matches were played on Busselton’s new courts, and the final result was 13 games to 3.

Congratulation to Eric and Carmel Watts on winning all four of their games. The other pairs all won 3 of their 4 games.

The Croquet Section thanks Brian Uren, Golf Croquet Captain, for organising, naming and making the shield for the Challenge.

Last week it was reported that “Only rain will stop us.” referring to playing bowls on Saturday. The above picture shows the result after the rain had forced these players to stand under the shelter for about 20 minutes last Saturday. Not one bowl near the kitty and none past the kitty either- let’s hope it is sunny next Saturday guys!! It is a pity the footy was delayed!

LADIES’ GOLF

Some brave ladies thought they would play golf last week but retreated fairly quickly before even getting to the first tee!! The soup was lovely in the warm dry clubhouse though!

This week we will be attempting to play the 2nd qualifying round if the weather allows us to.

Don’t forget Saturday is the Mixed Pairs Ambrose -please see notes in Men’s Golf notes- Entry sheet is on golf noticeboard in the foyer. If you need a partner just put your name up on the form.

A couple of funnies we may be able to identify with.
