CORPORATE BOWLS 2016/2017
The Corporate Bowls Season for the Dunsborough Country Club finishes this Wednesday with the Interclub Challenge to be held at the Cowaramup Country Club. There are seven teams travelling to take part in the challenge and supporters are welcome to attend. It will start at Cowaramup at about 6.15pm. Good luck to those competing.
The winners of the New Year 2017 season were as follows
Tuesday – Season Winners HUNTERS and GATHERERS
Wednesday – Season Winners WHITE SHOE SHUFFLERS
Corporate Bowls is probably one of the most important events held at the Club. It attracts about 100 participants two nights a week for two six weeks seasons pre and post-Christmas. That is a participation level of some 2400 which apart from some bike events is the biggest that club has by a substantial amount. It also contributes a significant level of income.
The event is credit to those that set it up historically and to those volunteers that continue to provide the support necessary to keep it going at the standard that it is. It would be unfair to single people out but as an indication there are those that provide the technical support regarding the teams and competition, collect and process the money, set up the greens and clean up afterwards, co-ordinate and support the kitchen, work the inside and outside bars, sell the raffle tickets and chase up the all-important sponsors. An army of people and credit to them one and all.
Sponsorship is also an important feature of the event and the club is fortunate to have substantial ongoing support. The following businesses have provided vouchers ranging from $25 to $50 for the 24 nights of the season, so if your maths is any good you can see that the contribution is substantial.
Eagle Bay Brewery
Lot 80 Restaurant
Palmers Winery
Artezen Restaurant
Rivindel Wines
Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant
Peace Pizza
Weekly and Season prizes have been donated by the club and the following wineries.
Forestor Estate
Knee Deep wines
Lenton Brae
Down South Liquor Wholesalers (Smallwater Estate)
In addition this year we have had a Naming Rights Sponsor in the Dunsborough Yallingup Chamber of Commerce and Industry and they are to be thanked for their involvement. Early indications are that they will be involved again next year and that higher level of direct participation needs to be discussed and considered.
GREAT YEAR WELL DONE TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED AND THANKS TO THE PARTICIPANTS FOR THE SPIRIT THE GAME HAS BEEN PLAYED IN.
SPONSORS/PARTNERS
Please make yourselves familiar with our Partners. They are promoted around the bowling greens and croquet courts and on our TV screen. They make a significant contribution to our Club and we should give them the opportunity to win our business.

Results Thursday 23rd February. There were 41 players present.
Winners on plus 22 were B Pearce and G Oddy, R/U on plus 21 were G Winter and C Dawson. The consolation on plus 15 went to L Thomas and B Marwick whilst the MB awared went to H Queckfeldt and S Chrisstianson.
The Professional Men’s singles championship continued last Friday going into the evening. The games were terrific and a lot of people turned up to give their support and the crowd was enhanced by the croquet people who stayed to add volume to the cheering.
The second semi for the Plate went to Ben Tas over Tom Reynolds who could just not get into the game and Tas won 22-8. As the first semi for this event was played last Sunday R Prentice came into the final fresh. But it did not matter. As Tas was very complimentary in his speech as runner-up and said “even if I had played a magnificent game, I would not have been able to defeat Rob whose game was outstanding”. And thus the plate final was indeed won by Rob Prentice with the score of 21-8.
The semi finals for the championship were quite different. Geoff Benn did not allow Clive Williams to enter the game at all and won comfortably with the score of 21-7.
No one could pick the winner of the other championship semi final between Kevin Gibb and Garry Davies. This was an even game all the way through. Each player winning back the end and shots lost to even out once again. This game went to 27 ends and on the 26th end the score was 19-20 with Kevin down. This game was brilliant. With a touch of talent and some luck Kevin won the game 21-20.
The stage was set for a great finale between Geoff Benn and Kevin Gibb. Again this went end to end with scores even. At this point there was a great spectator group and everyone was enjoying a top quality game. The game was a draw at 21 each and on the next end Gibb managed to bring home three shots. Needing only one and holding a couple it forced Geoff Benn to drive with little luck and Kevin Gibb retained his title of club singles champion.
Congratulations to all players and many thanks to the markers of the day, again helping out brilliantly.
