Hello all members, sponsors & patrons

It was a busy ANZAC long weekend around the Club.

Friday night the Club held a dinner dance featuring Local Vintage.  Estelle Perry put in countless hours organising the meal and donations for the night.  It was very well supported by Club members and patrons  A great night of dining and dancing was had by all.

On Saturday after the ANZAC Ceremony around 100 people returned to the Club for the ANZAC Day lunch.  Once again the Golf ladies did a fantastic job organising the meal especially considering they were backing up from the Friday night dinner.  A good crowd remained for the afternoon enjoying a few cold beverages and a game of bowls.

Saturday evening Bill and Helen Marwick celebrated their 50th Wedding Aniversary with family and friends.

Sunday the Club hosted an engagement party for 120 guests.

I must make special comment of the above and beyond effort put in by Leanne and Jye over the weekend behind the bar.  It was an extremely long and busy weekend and without their hard work and dedication it could not have run as well as it did.  Thank you

“News from the Carpet”

The Annual Men’s and Women’s Bowls AGMs were held last week when current issues were discussed and new committees elected. Dennis Frost was elected as the new Mens’ Chairman and Rob Pollard the Mens’ Captain while Daisy Grist and Sue Chester fill the self-same Ladies’ positions.

On Tuesday there were just 12 players of both sexes enjoying the wonderful weather and two hours of fun on ‘B’ carpet. (All men and women are welcome each Tuesday to sign on from 1 pm. for a 1.30 start.)

The Thursday Peg-draw was won by Wendell Hoover and a visitor from Thornlie Bowling Club; runners-up were Ian Creagh and Busselton’s Wally Dawson. Bill Marwick, Clem Taylor and Norm Gage took the consolation, while an elderly Dockers supporter shared the Mars bar !

Following the two games, Rod Grist, the Mens’ Vice-Chairman, presented trophies to Gary Davies, the season’s Singles Champion; to the new member, Kevin Nicholls, the Wrong Bias trophy; and to Johnny Cunneen, the Mars Bar trophy. Rob Pollard accepted the Foster Pearce Trophy as Clubman of the Year. Rod Grist noted that Gary Davies had also won the Leeuwin League Championship Singles and Geoff Benn/Kevin Gibb/Tim Sansom/Butch Sharpe the Fours L.L.Championship title. Earlier in the year those four had been rewarded as Club Fours Champions, as had Clint Kelly and Geoff Benn, the Pairs Champions, and Geoff Benn/Kevin Gibb/Brian Marwick the Triples Champions.

Wendell Hoover will be running the Winter Cash Pairs which will commence on Saturday 9th May.  Arrive at 12.30 pm for a 1.00 pm start.
