Happenings Around The Club

Local Vintage performed at the Club on Sunday to a crowd of 100 people.  It was a very successful afternoon which was enjoyed by all.

A huge thank you to Dunsborough Cellars for sponsoring the event.

Garden helpers are required to assist with weeding in the garden that edges the carpark and the tennis courts.   If any member has any spare time to spend in assisting in weeding the area it would be greatly appreciated.  The recent warmer weather has brought a crop of weeds.

Once weeding has been undertaken, planting in the remainder of the garden behind the new limestone wall will be progressively undertaken.

2019 will be a new year of change and challenges, so how about boosting those memory skills and learn to play Bridge?

A beginners class is being planned at the Country Club and if there is enough enrolments, the course will proceed with 2 hour sessions once a week for 8 weeks, starting late January 2019.

For further information and registration please contact Margret on 97522635 or email on  Text books need to be ordered so registration is essential before December 7th 2018

Do not forget Friday Night Jackpot will again be  $1000.

‘Yoga for over 50’s’ at Dunsborough and Districts Country Club, for ladies AND gentlemen ~

Beginners welcome !

In the words of local Dunsborough resident and yoga instructor Mandy Lancellas ‘I thrive on encouraging those who feel they ‘can’t do yoga’ to become those who can, by exploring the multiple benefits for the body, mind and soul. Gentle Hatha Yoga enables the body and mind to find calm and focus in the present moment. It is through breath awareness that we manage to realign our physical body with the mental and energetic systems. Our main focus is safe and effective alignment, to create awareness, strength and mobility. As we grow older the saying of ‘what we do not use, we loose’ begins to resonate with us more and more and so its vital to keep the body moving in a gentle and safe way, maintaining a healthy range of movement throughout our senior years and reducing the risks of injury.’

Mandy invites anyone who is interested to join this gentle and safe yoga practice, suitable for all levels including beginners and people over 50.

Date: Wednesdays

Time: 9:00 am

Venue: Dunsborough and Districts Country Club

Cost: $15

* Please bring a blanket for relaxation (as well as your own yoga mat if you have one).

Our three teams took part in the fifth round of the Southwest Bowling League. Our first team lost on both rinks at Capel, which leaves them in second place, just half a point behind Bunbury in Division 1. Our second team gained three points at home against Collie White, which leaves them in third place on the 3rd Division ladder, just a point behind Collie White and Busselton. In Division 4, our third team beat Eaton on both rinks at home, the four points placing them well behind Busselton and Brunswick on the Division 4 ladder.

It was great to have 50 players turn up for Rob and John’s peg-draw last week. Mick Finney and Garry Robinson won first prize with 2 + 20; Andre Gil partnered Geoff Oddy into second place with 2 + 16. Graeme Winter and John Cunneen enjoyed the chocolate.

Ed Hoemberg led Don Henderson,Kelly Allsop, Brian Buttsworth, into an early lead against last year’s champions, Geoff Benn, Mick Finney, Kevin Gibb and Geoff Oddy in the final of the Professionals Championship Fours. Their early lead was never surrendered, in fact all four played so well that they soon built up a handsome lead that took them to this year’s title with an easy win. In the nearby rink, there was a similar result when Wayne Coyle led his team of Ben Tas, Bill Hitsert, and Clive Williams, well clear of Terry South’s four to claim the plate.

In round 6 of the Leeuwin League, Dunsborough Blue enjoyed a bye, while Dunsborough White earned 4 points at home, defeating Margaret River Green on both rinks, to maintain their top position on the ladder, now 3.5 points clear of their nearest rivals Cowaranup Gold who, on nearby rinks, defeated Dunsborough Gold comprehensively, to retain second place on the ladder. Dunsborough Gold are now in seventh place just ahead of Dunsborough Blue.

Tennis Section held their Christmas Dinner at the Club on Saturday 24 November.

Forty four members were in attendance and everyone enjoyed a very well received traditional Christmas Dinner buffet prepared by our Chef, Callan Baker.  From the soup entrée to the turkey, ham, roast vegetables and salads, plus desserts of plum pudding and brandy custard and pavlova and berry compote – all in attendance were impressed with the wonderful dinner.  Thank you Callan!

My thanks to helpers on the day Fran and David Lamotte with their assistance in decorating the area and providing the Christmas quiz and to Greg Banfield for providing the Christmas tree and being the MC for the Christmas quiz.

Congratulations to Stan Noble for selecting the most correct answers on the evening.

Committee Members Terry Hodges and Gwen Bosenberg were recognised for their ongoing organisational assistance to the Tennis Section during the year.  Terry’s ongoing work with maintenance is greatly appreciated, as well as Gwen’s assistance in developing Thursday Ladies’ Social Tennis.

Thank you especially to all of you who come each week to enjoy your tennis and participate in such a friendly, social and inclusive manner and also to those who came along to the Tennis Christmas Dinner to make it such an enjoyable event for everyone who attended.
