BOWLS NEWS

MEN’S BOWLS

Tuesday

Unfortunately, playing in the first semi-final of the SWBL at Busselton, our 1st team were defeated on both rinks by Busselton Red, so will have to play Busselton Black in the preliminary final this Tuesday to see if they will be meeting Busselton Red in the final of the SWBL 2nd division.

Thursday

45 players turned up for the peg-draw on a pleasant summer’s day when Graeme Winter and Mick Finney beat Len Mazga and Rob Prentice by just one shot (2+23 to 2+22) to take the meat. Linton Thomas and Jimmy Walker enjoyed the chocolate.

Friday

The semi-final of the Professionals Championship Singles began in the afternoon on a windy, challenging day and saw Dennis Frost just edge out Kelly (“the King”) Allsop 21-17 after a prolonged battle. On the other rink Gary Davies defeated Mike Brown a little more easily, 21/10. The final lasted 38 ends and saw Dennis Frost crowned Singles Champion for 2018, beating Gary Davies by 25-21 in front of a large gathering of excited, appreciative spectators on the alfresco.

In the semi-finals of the plate Toby McCarthy beat Garry Robinson 21-16 while Tom Reynolds had a tougher fight against Mick Finney

winning by just 21-19. The “Bootleg Brewer” went on to defeat Toby McCarthy a little more comfortably to earn the Singles Plate.

Our captain, Geoff Benn, who had run all four championships so well congratulated the winners in the bar at the day’s conclusion.

Saturday

Sadly, our Dunsborough Blue side lost the preliminary final of the Leeuwin League 1st division to Augusta Blue at Margaret River by a single-figure aggregate loss, leaving just Dunsborough White to represent our club in the grand final of the 2nd division, to be played at Margaret River on 10th  March.

LADIES BOWLS

PENNANTS FINAL AT DUNSBOROUGH 20TH FEB

Dunsborough White:- S.Chester, D.Mott, J.Winter and M.Armstrong played against Augusta.

J.Winter and M. Armstrong won their pairs, while S.Chester and D. Mott managed to win by one.

This gave Dunsborough 3 points.

The fours is worth 3 points, so if Augusta won this it would come down to a one end playoff.

Dunsborough white were down 7 to 1 after four ends, but gradually clawed their way up to be

2 ahead on the 12th end.

Augusta scored one on each of the last two ends to make the fours a draw , one point to each side.

This made Augusta 1 point and Dunsborough White 4 points to win the pennant.

 PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP

10 pairs played 5 rounds on Feb 7th and Feb 21st,

At the end of 4 rounds there were four pairs who had won all their games, but two pairs were defeated in the last round.
