BOWLS NEWS
MEN’S BOWLS
Tuesday
Both SWBL Pennants games were cancelled due to heavy rain, as were all matches in Divisions 2 and 3. Our Dunsborough 1st team remains top of Division 2, still half a point ahead of Busselton Red. Our 2nd team remains 6th on the ladder in Division 3.
Thursday
Traders Day took the place of the regular peg-draw and it was pleasing to see 16 teams take part in cool conditions on both carpets. Wally Dawson, a good supporter of our club, and his Busselton team, were winners on the day with other visitors a close second. A foursome from Corporate Bowls certainly held their own against experience bowlers and expressed great pleasure in taking part in this competition.
Saturday
Our four teams were involved in round 10 of the Leeuwin League Pennants and unfortunately our 1st team, Dunsborough Blue, lost the aggregate by just one shot away to Margaret River Green. With one round to go, this leaves Dunsborough Blue just half a point behind Margaret River Green on the single ladder. Dunsborough Red scraped home by a shot to Cowaranup Gold to take 3 points at home. Dunsborough White won on one rink at home to Augusta Blue,(Butch Sharpe was BOG, Best on ground) but lost the aggregate, though they remain 5th on the ladder which should see them into the 2nd division finals. Dunsborough Gold also lost the aggregate at home, this time by just 3 shots, against Margaret River White.
Dunsborough Red’s game away to Margaret River Green on 3rd February will prove crucial, since the only way Dunsborough Blue can earn home finals for us by reaching the top of the ladder, would be if Dunsborough Red can gain one away point playing Margaret River Green away (provided Dunsborough Blue comes away with 4 points at home to Augusta White).
LADIES BOWLS
PENNANTS 16TH JAN AT COWARAMUP.
Owing to heavy rain, pennants were not able to be played and the points were shared between the teams present.
SOCIAL BOWLS WED 17TH.
14 people played social bowls, with some pairs and some triples.
Winners with two wins and 32 shots up were Jill Winter and Helen Reynolds.
Runners-up with one win and a draw were Pam Brown, Jem Coupar and Peg Howley.
Next Wed 24th is William Barrett mixed fours.
