    HAPPENINGS AROUND THE CLUB

    Rita Robertson

    It is with regret that we inform everyone of the passing of our long time Member Rita Robertson. 

    We send our condolences to Stephen and his family at this sad time.

    Rita’s funeral is being held at the Bantry Chapel in Busselton on Friday 26th July at 2.30pm and the wake is being held at the Dunsborough Country Club from 3.30pm.

    Rita did a lot of work for the Club in the early days and participated in golf and croquet.

    Rita represented the croquet section on the Management Committee in 1993. She only started playing croquet in 1997 and was captain from 1998 to 2011.

    Rita stopped playing croquet around 2013 due to ill health and eventually moved to Perth to a nursing home.

    XMAS IN JULY 



    From all accounts the Xmas in July function was well attended and enjoyed by around 100 people last Friday night.

    DJ Emma enthused dancers to the floor and Chef Rob tantalised the tastebuds with his delicious Xmas meal.

    A big thank you to Helen Rowell, Barbara Miller, Caryll Marshall and Max Kewish for all their work putting the event together.

    Well done to all!

    WA GRAVITY ENDURO  

    Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st July


    What a race day. The weather gods were not so nice to us but our local riders sure took home some medals at this years round 5 of the WA Gravity Enduro. 

    So great to see everyone’s hard work pay off. 
    Big thank you to Steve WA Gravity Enduro for bringing this great event to our little hill. Hope everyone enjoyed their time in Dunsborough.

    Also a thank you to Graham from Bike Shed Dunsborough, Andrew Spencer Wright and his team from Cape Mountain Bikers, Regina on the BBQ in adverse conditions, the reliable team from golf who are always at our MTB events to help out, and all the other volunteers for all their hard work organizing this round.

    Trails are well groomed and running smooth and fast, so enjoy the conditions!

    The Jackpot Draw was won last Friday night with Ben Tas nearly wearing his finger out pressing the button!!  

    The number drawn out eventually was 646 belonging to Robin Beer who fortunately was present and financial.

    This Friday the draw will again be $1000 due to the build up of reserve raffles sold previously.

    The new 2019/20 Membership year for the Jackpot draw will take effect on Friday August 2nd. If you are not financial by then you will be ineligible to win the draw.

    The golf section is definitely indebted to Barry Guest with his fabulous skills of welding and making various items for the Club.Barry puts a lot of time in over at the golf shed.Thank you Barry for your valuable time and input-you are what makes our Club very special!

    LADIES GOLF. 18TH JULY.

      NINE HOLERS PLEASE NOTE THAT STARTING TIME IS NOW                NAMES IN BY 10.45 HIT OFF 11A.M.           EIGHTEEN HOLES Only five ladies played stroke for the 3rd Qualiflying round               of the Championships. Winner for the day was Pat Manton and R/U was Vicki Frost on a three way countback . 

Longest putt on 11 was Dot Carmody and who was also 

N.T. P on 18. 

                      NINE HOLES.            Seven ladies played stableford holes 10 to 18.Winner was Beth Jackson with 15 points from Gay Growden 13 points. THOUGHT OF THE WEEK:- Golf is an endless series of tragedies, obscured by the occasional miracle.

TENNIS NEWS

A reminder to Tennis Members regarding the Tennis Seniors 2020 Championships to be held in from 5 January 2020 at the Busselton and Bunbury Tennis Clubs.  Discounted entries are offered if teams/entries are submitted by 30 July 2019. You can submit an individual nomination to be placed in a team if a full team cannot be found.  Entries Close on 30 August 2019. 

Secondly, a number of ladies have nominated for pennants for the forthcoming season.  Well done if you are one of those!  If you are still considering nominating, please advise Marlene Howes (marlene.howes@bigpond.com) as soon as possible as nominations will be submitted towards the end of August 2019.  Fixtures are likely to be available in late September/early October and matches would be expected to commence in mid-late October 2019.

    THURSDAY BOWLS What a lovely sunny winters afternoon it was and the mars bars went off in spectacular fashion this week with Rob Pollard and Adrian Cox teaming up and getting a mighty impressive -35.

    Consolation 2 was won by Martin Osborne and Garry Bell with a very good +14.

    Consolation 1 was taken out by Keith Rowell and John Mawson with a solid +23.

    Runners up this week with 2 wins a + 14 were Keith Holyoake and Trevor Palmer while the winners with 4 more points [2 wins and a +18] were Geoff Oddy and Dominique D’addario.

    Great bowling guys and see you all  this coming Thursday.

LADIES’ GOLF

    LADIES GOLF. 18TH JULY.

      NINE HOLERS PLEASE NOTE THAT STARTING TIME IS NOW                NAMES IN BY 10.45 HIT OFF 11A.M.           EIGHTEEN HOLES Only five ladies played stroke for the 3rd Qualiflying round               of the Championships. Winner for the day was Pat Manton and R/U was Vicki Frost on a three way countback . 

Longest putt on 11 was Dot Carmody and who was also 

N.T. P on 18. 

                      NINE HOLES.            Seven ladies played stableford holes 10 to 18.Winner was Beth Jackson with 15 points from Gay Growden 13 points. THOUGHT OF THE WEEK:- Golf is an endless series of tragedies, obscured by the occasional miracle.

TENNIS NEWS

A reminder to Tennis Members regarding the Tennis Seniors 2020 Championships to be held in from 5 January 2020 at the Busselton and Bunbury Tennis Clubs.  Discounted entries are offered if teams/entries are submitted by 30 July 2019. You can submit an individual nomination to be placed in a team if a full team cannot be found.  Entries Close on 30 August 2019. 

Secondly, a number of ladies have nominated for pennants for the forthcoming season.  Well done if you are one of those!  If you are still considering nominating, please advise Marlene Howes (marlene.howes@bigpond.com) as soon as possible as nominations will be submitted towards the end of August 2019.  Fixtures are likely to be available in late September/early October and matches would be expected to commence in mid-late October 2019.

    THURSDAY BOWLS What a lovely sunny winters afternoon it was and the mars bars went off in spectacular fashion this week with Rob Pollard and Adrian Cox teaming up and getting a mighty impressive -35.

    Consolation 2 was won by Martin Osborne and Garry Bell with a very good +14.

    Consolation 1 was taken out by Keith Rowell and John Mawson with a solid +23.

    Runners up this week with 2 wins a + 14 were Keith Holyoake and Trevor Palmer while the winners with 4 more points [2 wins and a +18] were Geoff Oddy and Dominique D’addario.

    Great bowling guys and see you all  this coming Thursday.
