Hello Members, Sponsors & Patrons

SHARE THE DIGNITY

IT’S IN THE BAG

Three of the DDCC’s members have undertaken to help an excellent cause and are inviting all sporting bodies to consider taking part.

Estelle Perry, Lorraine Lewis and Janice Paddick-Hoover are promoting “It’s in the Bag” which is a cause set up by “Share the Dignity” and is currently being run throughout Australia.

The initiative is to help those ladies in our community who are or who are at risk of becoming homeless and also to help shelters for abused women with a handbag of essential items which we all take for granted.

Already they have had great support.  The ladies who are currently playing Corporate Bowls have also been invited to consider helping, along with the tennis, golf and croquet.  Members who belong to other organizations in Dunsborough have also taken this cause and are promoting it within their own circles.

A target of 50 bags has been made.  With your help we can do this together.

Attached to this newsletter is further information.

MENS’ BOWLS

Janice Paddick-Hoover

Thursday Men’s Bowls 17/11/16 the winners were R Don and K Holyoake  plus 36 with the runners-up on plus 25 being D Henderson and J Walker.  The consolation prize went to E Bunbury and H Queckfeldt on plus 14 and the MB award was presented to Fred Vanranzow and R Prentice.

Pennants.  Division Two.  Dunsborough white beat blue 46-32 aggregate.  The ladder has Margaret River on top with Duns blue second, white third.

Division One :  We played Margaret River with 67-57  with one draw and two wins and the aggregate to take out 5.5 points and so we are on top with 31 points and MR and Augusta are on 19.5 points each.  Geoff Benn is on top of the skip ladder with Ed Hoemberg in second place.

PLAY OF THE DAY:  Clem Taylor’s 12 touches.  Yes!  12 touches!

Ken Rowell Memorial Mixed Fours.

An overcast and coolish day were the conditions, with the sun peeping out very rarely.  It was a great competition with lots of fun and some excellent bowls delivered to boot.

K Gibb’s team won last year and they were on the prowl to have a repeat.  They lost M Patterson due to a cruise being more important but they picked up M Brown in her place.  They won their first two games but then met M Hines team which had one win and a draw which ultimately became two wins and a draw.

But circling under the radar was Henk de Boer, Megan Black, Maxine Allum and Heinz Fischer who won their first two games and then put everything to bed with a huge win in their third match.

The winners were Henk and his crew, Maureen and her crew (I Creagh, R Don and N Gage) came second and coming in third was the crew from Busselton skipped by W Dawson.

Ken’s great grand-daughter Bree Hastie was there to present the winning cheques.  She thanked the club for “carrying on Pop’s memory” and congratulated everyone for the day’s organisation.
