Bowls Champion of Champions

The Leeuwin & Districts Bowling League held the men’s Champion of Champion at the Dunsborough & Districts Country Club over the weekend.

The five clubs within the League sent their respective champions to Dunsborough to vie for their individual results as well as gaining points for their club to become the League’s Champion Club and take home the League trophy.

Eight points were awarded for the overall winners of each section and then in descending order from five points to one thus allowing all teams to accumulate points.

Dunsborough was only successful in taking out one championship in the form of the Fours skipped by Tom Reynolds with Clint Kelly, Don Henderson and Ian Creagh filling in the remaining spots.

The premier event of the men’s champion singles bowler was a three way draw between Andrew Drayton from Augusta, Kevin Gibb from Dunsborough and Keith Simmonds from Cowaramup with each player equal on three wins apiece. Drayton took out the title with plus 25 shots from Gibb on plus 22 and Simmonds third on plus 19. The game between Kevin and Andrew was a classic and it could have gone either way.

Edmund Hoemburg and Kelly Allsop were runners-up for the pairs, Mike Browns triple team with Ralph Don and Rod Winchcombe came third, Rob Prentice was runner up for the veterans, Richard Bingham came third in the novice event.

Augusta won four titles and was runner-up in two other events and became the overall club champion for the Leeuwin League on 42 points with Dunsborough runner-up on 31 points.
Margaret River, last yeaar’s champions came third with Cowaramup 4th and Nannup 5th.

Hi members-

With the X Adventure race coming up, we have three busy bee/ trail work days planned. It would be great to see as many members here as possible to help improve our great club and trails.

A busy bee will be held at the Country Club on Saturday April 2nd.

The purpose is to undertake Stage 1 of the proposed Landscaping Project and will involve the moving of on-site rocks to form several tiered areas around the East side of the tennis courts.

The busy bee will commence at 9.am & I estimate it should take about 2 hours. Those attending are advised to wear gloves.

Next dates Sunday April 3rd and Sunday April 10th, both from 9am for a couple of hours. Trail maintenance for X Adventure race planned. More info to be posted closer to these dates.

Hope to see more riders there,

Hope to see you on one of these days!
