Hello Members, Sponsors & Patron

I have been experiencing a few dramas with the internet connection and the sending of the newsletter over the past two weeks.  If ever you do not receive the newsletter as per normal a copy is always posted on our website at dunsboroughcountryclub.org.au  Hopefully the problem will not persist.

until later in the year. Please email the addresses to
mebership@dunsboroughcountryclub.org.au

Bowls News

Thursday June 9th

Winners T South and B Hitsert with the R/U being G Benn and J Cunneen. The consolation was awarded to John Porter and G Oddy whilst the MB award was given to B Bass and H De Boer.

June 11th news.

Sixteen local bowlers braved a strong northerly today and were joined by two visitors from Riverton. The first twelve ends of triples, on three rinks, produced the fascinating result of each triple winning and losing by three shots. But things were very different after the break for drinks. Jill Winter, Jean Kelly, and a visitor, John Porter, won the day with an aggregate of fifteen up. After seven rounds Ken Holyoake still leads the pack but was missing on Saturday following a short hospitalisation. We wish him and Brian Morris a full recovery from their recent maladies.

June 18th

Winter bowls is proceeding well despite some windy, chilly, and overcast days. Some two dozen men and ladies play “squash” on Tuesdays where consistency is tested because individual points are only earned after combatants “win the mat.” Finals are always good fun as points winners play four ends, the rest of us cheering them on, while imbibing a drop of ‘refreshments’. Several Busselton regulars and a smattering of other visitors see up to three dozen men enjoy year-round Thursday “scroungers” while the Saturday “dash for cash” has gone eight rounds with Hans Queckfeldt (14 ½ pts.) just overtaking Ken Holyoake (14 pts.) on the ladder. Ken has been missing for a fortnight as both he and Kelly Allsop are recovering well from cardiac surgery. We wish Ken, Kelly, as well as Brian Morris, a complete convalescence from their recent ordeals.

Mens shirts.

The order for the news shirts will be handed in on Friday of this week.  It is imperative that the men contact Kevin Gibb by Thursday 23rd to order correct sizing.

Corporate bowls sponsor Beef by the Reef still have their lamb shanks on special for $9.99 but this ends during the week so get in quick.  The F/Q lamb chops are the same price for another week.  Do you feel like a slow roasted lamb shoulder, Rob has that on special as well for $9.99.

Croquet News

croquet

On Friday  we hosted a visit from the Moorabinda club a group of 4 A.C. and 4 golf croquet  players participated in 3 mixed sessions which resulted in some excellent games. We were fortunate to have Jeanine Hawker attending, Jeanine attended the world championships in Scotland last year resulting in gaining a spot in the semi finals. Jeanine was kind enough to give us some tips.

Our thanks to Hamish who supplied us with hot soup and crusty bread for lunch.

We hope to arrange more of these visits now our 2 courts are in good playing condition Our picture shows Max receiving some help from Jeanine

DUNSBOROUGH & DISTRICT
COUNTRY CLUB
JUNIOR GOLF
COACHING AND PLAY

Last Sunday saw 5 Juniors attend coaching with Steve Dartnall. Steve demonstrated putting and
chipping then the children practised these skills until the heavens opened up forcing all to take
shelter. As the rain had set in we adjourned to the clubhouse to practise an innovative game of
putting which proved to be a fun activity. Well done to all for their enthusiasm.
Next Sunday at 10 am Steve will be coaching again so come along for a short warm up and then
we will play some golf on the course.
It would be a good idea if all Juniors could bring a wet weather jacket each week in case we get
caught out on the course with rain at any time.
If there are any children between 8 and 17 years of age who wish to learn golf please come along
and join us. This is a fantastic chance to learn golf skills from a skilled golfer such as Steve.
The only cost is to become a Junior Member of the Dunsborough Country Club which is $20 for a
year. If you require further information please contact Vicki on 0428649810.
