PROPOSED LICENCE CHANGE

The Management Committee has initiated proceedings to apply for an alternative liquor licence.

Why—

  • Technically non-members are, in some cases, attending Club functions outside the jurisdiction of our current licence.
  • To be able to openly advertise and attract more visitors to our functions .
  • To be able to attract more visitors and convert them into members and eventually playing members.
  • To continually increase our membership numbers resulting in low membership fees which in itself creates an attraction.
  • To attract people who are looking for an alternative social venue rather than the local Pub or bars.

What Changes At The Club—

Nothing really ! Our Club will continue its current operation with its existing sporting membership but also:

  • Legally be able to provide and advertise functions open to the public.
  • Attract local community and residents.
  • Be promoted as an attractive function venue for weddings, birthdays, corporate affairs, etc.
  • Offer a two tier bar and meal price – Members and non-members.

BOWLS NEWS

Tuesday Mixed Bowls

20 people came along for our last day of bowls on Tuesday and it was another very fun and enjoyable day.

Maureen Hines again bowled extremely well to be first into the finals followed by Toby McCarthy and Ken Littlefair.

In the finals Maureen again was on target and took out first prize comfortably.  Well done Maureen.

The carpet has been ripped up now and the new carpet should be finished on both greens around the 20th October.  Thanks to everyone who participated on Tuesday Mixed Bowls for making it a fun and enjoyable event.  Hope to see you all again next April when we will start it up again.

Thursday Men’s Bowls

Thirty keen competitors turned up on a lovely Spring day, run by faithful Peter Cracknell. Bill Pearce, Wendell Hoover, and Tom Reynolds went home with the meat, having beaten Jimmy Walker, Norm Gage and Tim Sansom comprehensively twice, leaving them with the Mars Bar.

Saturday Mixed Bowls

A Baker’s dozen turned out on Saturday playing three sessions of ten ends. Tim Sansom and Maureen Hines tied for first place with Gary Robinson and Gail Barry coming third and fourth before the rain descended, preventing a final play-off. (Prize money was shared between the two who stayed to receive it!)

Work has commenced, replacing the carpet on ‘A’ green, but Thursday bowls will continue on ‘B’ green with play limited to the first 42 bowlers to turn up

Affiliation fees of $50 are now due.  Please pay your Bowls Section Treasurers

CROQUET NEWS

South  West  A C Pennants begin Thursday 5th October then the following 3 Thursdays finishing on Thursday the 26th.  Start times 8.30 for 9.00. Would all A.C. Players available kindly let me know. Cheers Raelene.

Thursdays Busybee.
Over the last few weeks I had been endeavouring to find a time to set about aerating no 2 court, the problem was , trying to get this action underway following the A.C tournament, and also having this court in reasonable condition for G.C.s singles and doubles, which Captain Caryll is hoping to complete during October, also A.C s  pennants first match is at home on the 5th, therefore the date was set at very short notice, plus the problem escalated when on trying to book the machine for a 8am start I discover somebody else got in first. As you now know we were able to get the machine 2 hours earlier than anticipated which was lucky otherwise we would have been working in the dark.  A huge thank you to following Max, Caryll, Terry, Phil, David B, Maree, Karen, and  Rosie, this group did  a magnificent job as we not only aerated, but also fertilised and topdressed the court, once again my thanks.
