BOWLS NEWS
Thursday Bowls
With the “A” green not quite finished and a good turnout on a welcomed, sunny day, it was mainly triples on “B” green that provided contest for the sheep station.
Two teams tied for first place with two wins + 18 and on a count-back Wendell Hoover, Alun Legge, and Hans Queckfelt just tipped Tom Reynolds and Lindsay Blyth of Busselton.
The Mars company profited from the efforts of Ralph Don, John Halden, and Brian Buttsworth.
Men’s Triples
The first two rounds of this event took place on Saturday with congratulations due to two new boys on the block, Mike Finney and Toby MacCarthy who, with Hans Queckfelt skipping, eliminated two of last year’s triples champions with some fine bowling. However, they went down in the next round.
Our captain suggests that the semi-finals of this event should begin at 1 pm. this Friday with the finals to follow at 3.30 pm.
Opening Day
Geoff Benn and Vicky Frost kindly added their names to ensure that there was a round number of 42 bowlers on “B” green on Sunday to play three-bowl triples. Our dear friend Jim Stewart, now of Mt.Pleasant Bowling Club, rolled a bowl to Chairman Rob Prentice on the (almost ready) “A” green, to officially inaugurate the 2017/18 season and Rob Bennett, representing Busselton Shire, appeared just as the day’s winners were tasting their prize wines.
N.B. Numbers limited to 42 this Thursday – so first come first served.
A few Affiliation fees still outstanding.
CROQUET NEWS
Ricochet Croquet at Port Bouvard.
On Friday 13th six players from the club went and played ricochet at Pt Bouvard greens Players that went on an adventure were Barbara Miller, Barbara Mander, Wendy and David Collins, Caryll Marshall and Max Kewish. Sorry Brian and David missed out on the adventure because of illness. We missed you.
Although the club do not have full courts there are 4 x 3/4 courts which makes it a little easier to hit balls (not)
The hospitality was wonderful from the group. The weather was a treat, nice and warm.
On Friday after a scrumptious lunch of home made tasties and a cuppa we played 2 games of 50 minute rounds of ricochet. Some members wanted to play a game of golf croquet so we spent the last part of the day showing our skills with Barbara Miller and Mad Max doing their usual slammers across the courts.
Lots of fun and learning about different rules and strategies. Then drinks at the clubhouse, a quick shower and change of clothes into all black for Friday 13th dinner.
About 100 people attended a delightful buffet of meats, roast vegies, cauliflower cheese, lasagne, beautiful crumbed fish plus more including salads and prawns. This was followed by chocolate torte cake, pavlova, fruit salad with whipped cream. A beautiful meal with wonderful new friends.
Saturday morning we started play again at 9.30am . Stopped for a chat and cuppa after the first game. They love their cuppa’s there.
Played the last game and packed up for lunch which was a bbq plus salads chicken kebabs, lamb chops and home made sausages from Len who used to own Lenny Butchers in Perth. This was followed by cheesecake fruit platter and slice. Sounds like we ate all weekend and we did especially me and now my scales are broken. Need a refund there..
Max was the star of the games, hooping 37 hoops all up and the booby prize went to our Barbara Mander who was wrapped at getting a very handy prize..
The hospitality from all at Pt Bouvard was excellent. The couple who was kind enough to share their home with 3 of us a big thank you.
Lets hope the DC can return the favour in the new year.
Well done to all players for venturing out to socialise with another club for a game and enjoyment.

Last Saturday’s Stableford event attracted another keen field and brought in a new first time winner in Paul Smith who scored 45 points playing off his 15 handicap for the event. Paul’s round was very consistent with several pars and this spurred on our Runner Up ,Laurie Richards who has just completed his three cards and scored 34 points. Well done to you both.
Back on the course as a player Stephen Robertson sank the longest putt on No 18.
Other scores were Barry Jackson 33, Keith Rowell 32, Gary Boterhoven 31,
Mal Williamson and Mark Embry on 30, John Crute 29, Peter Jordan 28, Stephen Robertson and Ron Carmody on 25 and Doug Macpherson 23. Mike King has completed his three cards now and will be set to put his handicap into the mix.

as the first draw is this coming weekend.
Heard around the Vets after match chat
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to play Vets next season. My knee’s only a few months old, my back is 17 years old and I recently got a new hip.
I might be too young now!” (George Archer)
Good Golfing !
Ron Carmody .

TENNIS NEWS
Great excitement for Tennis Section to see the new synthetic courts completed and playable last weekend. The surface is certainly very different to the “old” carpet that was there, not only in colour, but in the quality of the surface. We now look forward to the completion of the surface on the two new courts early in 2018 and the re-surfacing of the original two courts.
