BOWLS NEWS
MEN’S BOWLS
Trevor’s Carpets Carnival
The Club hosted another successful Trevor’s Carpets Carnival. Many thanks must firstly go to event organisers Kevin Gibb, Geoff Benn and Rob Prentice. The kitchen team was lead by Denise Mott and her many helpers who did a fantastic job feeding the hungry men. The bar staff were kept very busy keeping the bowlers hydrated throughout the weekend. A special mention must go to the scorers Wendell and Janice Hoover for a magnificent job.
The Club received many ackolaids from the visiting bowlers
The carnival winners were Scott Pennington, Ian Pennington, Jim Paganoni and Bill Sawkins from Busselton. Second was the team from Gnowangerup, third was Bunbury, fourth was Kukerin with the Kardinya Kats finishing fifth.
Thursday
Numbers were slightly down this week when 38 players enjoyed the usual peg-draw. Once again visitors took the meat when Dominic Diario paired up with Rolf Groenheide and just beat Peter Wilson and Bill Sawkins, who were a shot behind after the two games. The youngsters Ken Hill and Martin Osborne enjoyed the chocolate.
Weekend Carnival
Trevor’s Carpets was again a great success under the generous sponsorship of Ray and Maureen Green. The Busselton team of Ian and Scott Pennington, Jim Paganoni, and Bill Sawkins won the day, with seven wins and 51 shots-up. Second, came visitors from Gnowangerup, followed by a four from Bunbury, who just outpointed, on a count-back, our own Dennis Frost, who led a team from Kukerin into fourth place. Visitors were welcomed by our president, Rob Prentice; and our captain, Geoff Benn thanked all the 28 teams taking part, Kevin Gibb our liaison man, Wendell Hoover our scorer, while thanks were also extended to our wonderful sponsor, Ray Green, to the kitchen staff, and to all members who assisted, both in the clubhouse, and around the carpets on both days.
AGM
This will take place at the clubhouse at 10 am. this Thursday, 19th April. The present committee would like to see a full turnout of members as there will be several issues under discussion to that will affect the club’s future as well is the election of a new committee for season 2018/19. (Any apologies to the bowls secretary please prior to Thursday.)
Winter Bowls
See the noticeboard for the winter program, regarding Bowls on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
(The Interclub L.L. mixed two-bowl triples will commence on Saturday the 28th April at our club which will involve just three of our members each Saturday at four of the Leeuwin league venues in rotation)
Members’ update
Bill Marwick’s condition is stable presently though he still requires continuous oxygen but is able to drive himself and get out for short periods of time. He trusts we will see him on the bench watching his favourite game again when the weather is favourable.
Brian Morris continues to improve steadily and is attending rehabilitation so that it will not be too long before we see his smiling face at the club again.
Ben Tas is recovering well from his recent boating mishap and is relatively pain free in his back brace. He is taking things easily for the next few weeks but retains his cheeky humour around the home.
Clem Taylor may be seen occasionally ambulating around the foreshore with his wife’s assistance and remains positive following major surgery sometime ago. He is hoping to return to the Bowling Green next springtime and sends his good wishes to members.
Keep Kevin Nichols and his family in your thoughts and prayers as this condition leaves a lot to be desired at this difficult time.
