Hello all members, sponsors & patrons

Clubs WA

It was a great night on Saturday at the Clubs WA Awards with a crowd of nearly 500 in attendance.  The Dunsborough & Districts Country Club won the Best Function Facility (Small) and the top award  as the Club of the Year (Small).  I was lucky enough to be acknowledged as the Club Manager. It was personally very satisfying to receive the award and the number of calls, messages and emails of congratulations were very much appreciated. A major  thank you must go to Ian Potts for all his efforts putting together the submission. Without Ian’s efforts none of the awards would be possible.  The win will help raise the profile and awareness of our Club and attract new members to enjoy what we have on offer.  A full list of the award winners is below.

MEN’S BOWLS NEWS

Tuesday’s MM mixed bowls attracted 26 bowlers which shows the rapid support this event is gathering – thanks to the commitment of Butch & Sharon Sharpe & Geoff Oddy

Graham Winter took the day’s honours with Linda Foard, Dominic D’Addarrio and Don Henderson tying for Runner Up position.

Thursday Men’s social bowls attracted 38 bowlers in pleasant weather for the 2 games of 12 ends each.

Tim Sanson and Ken Hill won with an impressive +38 with Les Munroe and Geoff Benn Runners Up with +21 points.

The Consolation prize went to Peter Wilcox and Rod Grist who lost their first game but won the second with +11.

Bowlers acknowledged the milestone birthday of Brian Morris who was about to celebrate his 80th birthday. Congratulations Brian from us all.

Snakes and Ladders on Saturday saw 22 players enjoying this new format of cash bowls.

Wendell and Janis continue to a great job in seeding players to make this a very equal competitive event.

New player Gary Robinson won the event again with 6 points /27 shots up demonstrating that the seeding process works.

Ian Creagh was a close Runner Up again with 6 points and 13 points up.

Graeme Winter also had 6 points with 7 points up to run third. Well done all of you.

Winter bowls is very healthy within our Club and from the feedback I receive, bowlers are enjoying themselves in the variety of fixtures available.

Cheers

Men’s Golf   Notes: Ron Carmody Captain

Saturday 13 June   2015

A field  of 13 players took part  in a Stablefordevent sponsored by John Murphy . Competition was keen around the course  which showed the benefits of the recent busy bee.

Winner of the event was Jim Parry showing a welcome return to form with a score of 39. Looks like a change in Handicap for next week ,Jim.

Runner Up was Ben Tas scoring 38 andalso showing good form .

Equal Third Place with scores of 36 went to Barry Jackson and Doug Macpherson.  Andrew Perryman put in the longest Putt on Hole No 18.

Open to All Sections and Juniors All are welcome to participate.

 Tip of the Week

The back  of the ball is the best contact point so its worth looking at!

 Holiday and Travel Wishes

Best Wishes and Happy Travels to Dot Carmody and her group of ten lady golfers travelling to Christmas &Cocos Islands  next week and also to Barry & Beth Jackson , Mike and Kay Brown, Terry and Alli Sanbrook, Rob & Barbara Prentice and any others going on holidays at this time.

LADIES GOLF

Twenty four ladies enjoyed perfect weather conditions to play in Thursday’s Stableford competition, which  saw Vicki Frost winning on a count back from Jill winter, with 38 points.

The longest putt on No 8 was won by Jill,  and Jem Coupar was the winner of the closest drive to the blackboy on No1

Thanks to those who helped with the Busy Bee to burn back the “rough” around the course; several ladies who appear to enjoy the challenge of hitting their golf balls into these areas, rather than the more sedate way of actually playing on the fairways, found it most helpful.

This week’s game (18th) is a Stroke – 3rd Silver Spoon and Putting competition, but the following week’s competition has been changed to a Foursomes competition instead of the Par competition as some of our ladies will be away at the Rural Bronze in Geraldton.

Remember- Bad golf is still better than housework

Junior Golf

The season has started well for our junior golfers. Green grass and fine weather has made it perfect for holding our weekly competition.

Thanks to our amazing volunteers as always. Rob Pollard, Brian Morris and all the other club members who come and help out every week

really make the difference in our small section. We simply couldn’t hold such a great tournament without you. Numbers have been slowly

increasing from five to a current 10 players and with further promotion are continuing to build every week. Players are continuing to improve

this season and now it has been decided that the late division will now play off of the Mens tees. This seemed to work well last Friday, making

it a bit more challenging for the older and more experienced players.

The winners for last Friday (12th June 2105) are as follows:

Early Division

Winner: Dale Reid

Runner Up: Jaryd Hughes

Late Division

Winners: Tom Hunt & Callum Chandler

Runner Up: Ben Barnett

Nearest To Pin (On Fairway)
