Hello Members, Sponsors & Patrons

SHARE THE DIGNITY

IT’S IN THE BAG

Three of the DDCC’s members have undertaken to help an excellent cause and are inviting all sporting bodies to consider taking part.

Estelle Perry, Lorraine Lewis and Janice Paddick-Hoover are promoting “It’s in the Bag” which is a cause set up by “Share the Dignity” and is currently being run throughout Australia.

The initiative is to help those ladies in our community who are or who are at risk of becoming homeless and also to help shelters for abused women with a handbag of essential items which we all take for granted.

Already they have had great support.  The ladies who are currently playing Corporate Bowls have also been invited to consider helping, along with the tennis, golf and croquet.  Members who belong to other organizations in Dunsborough have also taken this cause and are promoting it within their own circles.

A target of 50 bags has been made.  With your help we can do this together.

Attached to this newsletter is further information.

Estelle, Lorraine and Janice.

MEN’S BOWLS NEWS

November 15 2016

Janice Paddick-Hoover

Cowaramup played Division One at home with the lads bring home the full six points.  Although the aggregate shows 79-44 it was not all easy going.  Cowaramup managed an ineffective mini surge half way through the game, but our boys didn’t let it worry them and kept on keeping on!

The ladder shows Dunsborough on top with 25.5 points and Geoff Benn on top of the skip ladder with 5 points. Margaret River is holding second spot,

Quote of the day came from Mike Brown.  Palmer from C’up did two great shots, both resting on either side of the jack.  Ben Tas had one bowl left.  Brown called out “Do you want to have a go at it?”  His second, Merv Mott didn’t need a go at it, his first bowl was perfect and nudged out one of Palmer’s bowls, but to add insult to the lead’s injury, followed it up with his second shot doing the same thing.  Stolen!

Shot of the Day.  Ed Hoemberg again.  His shot went wide, wide, wider, it was called a wrong ‘un but then started to come back, no wrong ‘un at all.  Just a mistake!   Cowaramup’s A Guerin also did a magnificent shot for his team to great excitement, but it all went south when Geoff Benn tipped him out.  “Well, I was ecstatic for one minute” said Guerin.
Division Two Blue travelled to C’up and came home with the full 4 points; with the aggregate of 50-26.  Keith Simmonds mentioned that they are struggling for players at the moment and the score card shows only three for each team.  They are already low on numbers for the ladies, so that is perhaps why no lady played for them.

White had to travel to Nannup where they had a win and a loss but kept the aggregate.  The two teams hold first and second places on the ladder.

Information for all men’s pennant players.

Anyone can easily check out the pennant results and ladder.  There is no need for a password in order to do this, the person submitting the results, in this case Wendell Hoover, is the only one who needs to use a password.

So in order for you to check out results, ladder etc, do the following:

Go to Bowls WA website, click onto “Country Pennants”, find our league, click on Leeuwin, it will show Div 1 and Div 2.  Click on “results”, or “ladder” or whatever you want to check out, and it will come up.  Easy.

LADIES BOWLS

Pennants Nov 8th.

It was a bad day at Black Rock for the ladies pennant side with none of the three winning a point.  The teams travelled to Cowaramup and just could not get it together at all.  The best games were between Jean Kelly’s team and Mary Bussell’s team from MR.  They lost each game by one or two shots, they were very close, but no cigars.

Bootleg Brewery Championship Fours.

The first day of the Ladies Bootleg Championship fours commenced last Wednesday with just five teams nominated.  Three teams had one draw and a win each so it made for an interesting finale.

Monday was a beautiful day, no cloud in the sky but you could feel a bit of a bite from the sun.

Winners:

Maureen Hines, Sue Chester, Sharon Sharpe and Daisy Grist/Merle Holmes with 3 wins and 1 draw  –  10 points

The runners-up were:  Jill Winter, Helen Reynolds, Peg Howley and Jem Coupar with 2 wins and 1 draw  –  7 points.

Travelling to the South Yunderup Bowling Club for the ILRR Pairs are Gayle Barry, Sharon Sharpe, Janice Hoover and newcomer to the club; Megan Black.  They leave November 23rd to play three games.

Croquet News

Yet another successful Croquet Fundraiser!

A big “thank you” again to Glen and Steve Mac for organising a third Bunnings Sausage Sizzle as a Croquet Section fundraiser. Saturday 12th November was a sunny day but with a contrary wind targeting the “kitchen” and causing some minor havoc.

With the smell of our sausages pervading the Bunnings’ foyer, the queues were constant, long and patient. There was a steady stream of customers and we took $1870.00 in sales making a profit of $1450.00.

Thanks too go to our willing helpers:

  • The early bird shift – Glen and Steve, Max Kewish and Frances Lismore
  • The crunch time slot – Raelene Willis, Helen Beer, Rosie Bastion and Terry Herd ( who reminded one customer of his grandmother!)
  • The end gamers – Helen and David Collins and Maree Jager.

We answered a number of questions about Croquet and the Club and encouraged folk to come and have a go. A worthwhile undertaking in more ways than one.
