ROB PRENTICE

PRESIDENT.

Nominations are invited to fill SIX vacancies by the expiration of the term of office of the following persons.

R. Prentice, R. Carmody, M Howes and K. McCormick and resignation of J. Reynolds and C. Parkinson

Each section should nominate an actively involved member from their section for election to the Management Committee

**********************************

October and the Club’s Annual General Meeting is approaching so it is time to think about nominating for a position on the Management Committee.

This year we have five (5) positions to fill therefore we would encourage all Members to consider nominating.  For each of the sporting sections it is important to nominate one of your members for a position so as to have a strong voice in the management as well as a representative for the interests of that sport.

The Club has an important social and community role within Dunsborough.    By becoming a member of the Management Committee one can:

  • contribute to enhancing this service,
  • put your ideas on the table about the running of our Club,
  • hear firsthand what the other sections are planning and contribute your thoughts,
  • get satisfaction from progress and good outcomes, and
  • of course feeling more involved generally.

As always, volunteering in any worthwhile cause gives personal satisfaction to those involved.

Our Club holds a very important place in this community and to all our members.  It needs to be managed in a very professional manner by a cross section of members. Also, a healthy situation exists when these Committee members change over on a regular basis to maintain fresh ideas and energy.

The last two years has seen many new projects put in place, new Bowling Greens, new Tennis courts, upgrade of our Golf course, improvements to the Bike skills course, Croquet is booming, new membership options, Resident Chef Callan and his crew, children’s playground, new sound system and solar panels. Our Club sponsorship is also expanding with a number of new sponsors coming on board.

We envisage the future being as progressive, rewarding and exciting for the Club.  New ideas and energy are very important in achieving this vibrancy.

Please give strong consideration to nominating.  Nomination will be called for during August.

Kaye L McCormick

Secretary

Yoga is back ON ! from next Wednesday, 29th August

‘Yoga for over 50’s’ at Dunsborough and Districts Country Club for ladies AND gentlemen !!

Beginners welcome !

In the words of local Dunsborough resident and yoga instructor Mandy Lancellas ‘I thrive on encouraging those who feel they ‘can’t do yoga’ to become those who can, by exploring the multiple benefits for the body, mind and soul. Gentle Hatha Yoga enables the body and mind to find calm and focus in the present moment. It is through breath awareness that we manage to realign our physical body with the mental and energetic systems. Our main focus is safe and effective alignment, to create awareness, strength and mobility. As we grow older the saying of ‘what we do not use, we loose’ begins to resonate with us more and more and so its vital to keep the body moving in a gentle and safe way, maintaining a healthy range of movement throughout our senior years and reducing the risks of injury.’

Mandy invites anyone who is interested to join this gentle and safe yoga practice, suitable for all levels including beginners and people over 50.

Date: Wednesdays

Time: 9:00 am

Venue: Dunsborough and Districts Country Club

Cost: $15

* Please bring a blanket for relaxation (as well as your own yoga mat if you have one).

* Yoga mats available for hire $3

For any queries (or to book a yoga mat) please call Mandy Lancellas 047 505 7294

MEN’S BOWLS

Tuesday Mixed Social Bowls

We had another excellent day again with 21 Participants enjoying each others company.  We played 3 games of Squash which we normally do with different opposition in each game.  The four to reach the final were Butch Sharpe, Geoff Oddy, Graeme Winter and Kay Upton.

No one gained the upper hand in the final so it all ended in a draw again.

Thanks everyone for coming along and will see you all again next Tuesday.

Thursday

35 players ignored the weather forecast and turned out last week. Wally Dawson and Hans Queckfelt won the meat with 2 wins + 23, just a shot ahead of Graeme Winter and Geoff Benn. Jim Holroyd, Wendell Hoover and Merv Mott enjoyed the chocolate.

Saturday

Just twelve keen bowlers, muffled up against the cold, fought it out on Saturday with the ambidextrous genius Dennis Frost winning the day. Busselton’s, Lesley Robinson, and Liz Wilson, now of Dunsborough, in joint second place.

Spare lockers in the men’s changing room are now available. Please approach the secretary if interested.
