Melbourne Cup Day was a great success last Tuesday and was well attended by around 90 guests.  The casual style was well received and everyone enjoyed the day.  A big thank you must go to Wayne Coyle for his help in running the sweep and the selling of the mystery tickets. It was very much appreciated thank you Wayne.

CORPORATE BOWLS

JANICE PADDICK-HOOVER

It’s one of life’s great mysteries.  Why is Tuesday night more popular for Corporate Bowls than Wednesday night?  “It beats me” said Brian Morris “but that’s the way it has always been”.

And nothing has changed for this season.  We have 28 teams for Tuesday night and because of three withdrawals this past week, 20 teams for Wednesday night.  But this makes no difference at all – in fact Wednesday night bowlers are still louder than Tuesday night bowlers!!

“Repeat” is the chant from Hunters and Gatherers whilst the quiet Dunsborough Darlings are relishing the new rule of Power Play as this enabled them to have their very first win.  Babs was over the moon about it and knows how to make the new play work.

We have introduced a sponsor receipt box where all Corporate Bowlers have been asked to support our sponsors, visit them, purchase something and keep their receipt, put their phone and name on the back of the receipt and place in the sponsor box.  A receipt will be drawn after six weeks and a prize give.  “A really good prize too” said Ryan from Artezen who is sponsoring the winner.

Sponsors this season are Palmers, Artezen, Amigos, Rivendell, Eagle Bay Brewing, Beef by the Reef and also Bootleg Brewery which will be donating cartons of beer for the six week champs.

The kitchen is being run by Sharon with some helpers from bowlers who are asked to look at the notice board to see when they will be assisting.  The list is on the ladies notice board.

Ladies Bowls Carnival

Our ladies held a very successful two day carnival with 96 ladies representing fifteen different clubs.  Weather caused the cancellationof the last game which was very disappointing.

Our major sponsors were Nick Goode, Southwest liquor wholesalers, Bendigo Bank & Rob Pollard.

And the winners were:

1st:  Kerry Scott’s team from Capel

2nd:  Pam Strongman’s team from Leeming

3rd:  Chris Dawson’s team from Busselton

4th:  Freda Ietto’s team from Brunswick

Great raffles and many compliments to the kitchen over the two days.  Wonderful effort by all involved.

Thank you Ladies
