Mahjong:

Last Tuesday saw a great group attend the Christmas gathering with plenty of fun & laughter being the order of the day. Thanks are extended by the group to those who organised this event [Barb Gooding, Shelley Joyce & Margi Holmes who were ably assisted by many others].  Luncheon was catered for by Town Kitchen; while the mahjong games had a definite Christmas twist to the play for the day. The Op Shop Christmas gift exchange proved a hit & no doubt some of those gifts will go around – & around & support the Op Shops at the same time.

BOWLS NEWS

MEN’S BOWLS

Southwest Bowling League

Last Tuesday our first team retained their position at the top of the 2nd division when Dennis Frost’s rink won 23-11 at Harvey, although Tom Reynolds four on the other rink lost 9-24. The three points gained by three shots on aggregate sees Dunsborough just a half a point ahead of Busselton Red, in second place.

Playing at home against Bunbury in the 3rd division, our second team gained only one point when Graeme Winter’s team won 25-19, while Rob Prentice’s four lost 19-26. Losing the aggregate by just one shot was disappointing as it left Dunsborough sixth on the ladder, where four points would have seen Dunsborough lying second, so close is the competition from 2nd to 7th places on the eight-side ladder.

Leeuwin League

Things are still going well for our first team for, despite losing away to Augusta Blue, the one point gained saw Dunsborough Blue still retain their position at top of the twelve-side ladder. Playing away, Gary Davies’ team won 21-18 while Dennis Frost’s four lost 14-27. Dunsborough Blue is just a point or two ahead of Margaret River Green in second place.

Dunsborough White beat Cowaranup Maroon comprehensively at Cowaranup. Ian Creagh’s four won 27-8, while Bill Hitsert’s rink won 21-19. The four points gained means Dunsborough White is now in fifth place on the ladder but within striking distance of the three teams just above them.

Dunsborough Red comfortably beat Augusta White playing at home, Brian Buttsworth’s rink winning 22-15 and Graeme Winter’s side 22-11. The four points sees Dunsborough Red in ninth position, well ahead of Dunsborough Gold in tenth position after they lost away to Margaret River Gold. Tom Reynolds four lost 12-17, and Wendell Hoover’s team lost 12-24.

Thursday peg-draw

51 bowlers turned up last Thursday on a pleasant sunny day. A record number for this season. Our treasurer, Hans Queckfeldt, partnered “Rolf” from Busselton to win the frozen meat while Rob Pollard enjoyed 24-ends with Busselton’s Wally Dawson to take the Mars bar.

Social bowls

Just a reminder that this continues on a Friday evening, arranged by Butch and Sharon Sharpe, and Geoff Oddy. All are welcome to join this fun game.

 CYCLE NEWS

In Cycling news, the refurbishment of Firey’s Descent has been met with lots of approval from local and visiting riders.  We are seeing lots of riders on the tracks, making use not only of our fabulous trails but those recently developed up in Meelup Park too.

Weekly social rides leave the Country Club from 5pm on a Friday afternoon, check Facebook for details.  Great opportunity to have dinner and a beer afterwards at the Club Night Dinner.

As we head into the hotter weather, we encourage people to be aware of the wildlife out on the tracks as lots of snakes have been spotted recently!  And of course stay hydrated out there!  With these warmer temperatures take plenty of water when you go out riding.

 Have fun out there!!
