Happenings Around The Club
A FUNNY TO START………on the golf course last Saturday.
“Now Dot, bend your knees, bottom out, head down and slowly back then swing through
to hit the ball-can you remember all that?”said Kanga!!
“I will try” said Dot.
Something for everyone to think about!!!
October and the Club’s Annual General Meeting is approaching so it is time to think about nominating for a position on the Management Committee.
This year we have six (6) positions to fill therefore we would encourage all Members to consider nominating. For each of the sporting sections it is important to nominate one of your members for a position so as to have a strong voice in the management as well as a representative for the interests of that sport.
The Club has an important social and community role within Dunsborough. By becoming a member of the Management Committee one can:
- contribute to enhancing this service,
- put your ideas on the table about the running of our Club,
- hear firsthand what the other sections are planning and contribute your thoughts,
- get satisfaction from progress and good outcomes, and
- of course feeling more involved generally.
As always, volunteering in any worthwhile cause gives personal satisfaction to those involved.
Our Club holds a very important place in this community and to all our members. It needs to be managed in a very professional manner by a cross section of members. Also, a healthy situation exists when these Committee members change over on a regular basis to maintain fresh ideas and energy.
The last two years has seen many new projects put in place, new Bowling Greens, new Tennis courts, upgrade of our Golf course, improvements to the Bike skills course, Croquet is booming, new membership options, new outdoor furniture, the Point of Sale system to better manage the Bar and recently the new Reward Card. Our Club sponsorship is also expanding with a number of new sponsors coming on board.
We envisage the future being as progressive, rewarding and exciting for the Club. New ideas and energy are very important in achieving this vibrancy.
Please give strong consideration to nominating. Nomination will be called for during August.

XMAS IN JULY was held at the Club on Sunday the 23rd of July. Approximately 76 people attended and enjoyed a beautiful Buffet style Xmas Meal. From all accounts the function was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Thank you to all concerned in running the day especially Colin our Chef and his crew for a lovely meal, to the Croquet section who set up and cleaned up for the day and to the bar staff for serving the drinks.
Save this Date: October 22nd Keith Potger returns
A quick reminder that if you have NOT paid your Membership then to remain
a participant in the Friday night jackpot draw you need to have paid by the 31st of
July- that date is the deadline for inclusion in the draw.
Also if you have not picked up your Membership Card/s from the Club you are
missing out on your Rewards that are linked to your Membership Card-so
come and see me at the Club from 10am Tuesday to Friday
until the end of July. Alternatively ask the bar staff for your Membership Card.
If for some reason Members do not wish to renew their Membership could
they please send me an email to let me know so I can remove them from the
VOLUNTEERS- are the reason our club ticks along so well-and we thank these volunteers below for their time spent helping out!! Whether it is garden weeding, serving food or decorating Xmas trees. Well done to everyone who volunteer at various times and it is much appreciated. THANK YOU!
MENS & LADIES BOWLS
Mixed Tuesday July 18th
Another very good turnout for the bowls again-20 starters and another fun day.
A different concept of bowls was played and everyone enjoyed it.
Tom Ferguson & Graeme Winter played very well all day followed by Dave & Sue Chester. All 4 made it to the finals but unfortunately the rains came along and cancelled play, making it a draw for the 4 finalists. Hope to see you all again next week for possibly another variation of the game.
Santa didn’t come to town, but the Christmas party on Sunday was a very festive affair. Food and drink were wonderful, as were decorations and table settings. Thanks to Colin and staff for great Christmas fare, to bar staff for the obvious, and to David, Wendy, Max, Karen, & Frances for the table settings and tree decoration etc. Special thanks to Barbara for quiet achieving- organizing, table pieces and raffle.
Croquet is just a little bit competitive and we high-five ourselves for being perhaps the smallest section in the Club with the biggest representation at Christmas in July. Many thanks from the croquet players to Max for his generous donation of wine for our tables.
Croquet is in need of a green keeper! Is there anyone out there who has skill, interest and time? Please talk to Max.
